The Wilhelmina Canal
The first plans for a canal connecting Tilburg and Eindhoven with the Meuse date from 1794, but it was not until 1910 that construction started and was completed in 1923. Due to the growth of inland waterway traffic, the importance of the canal has increased still large, but at the same time it is pleasant to cycle in the green strip parallel to the canal.
The Vressel Forest
Barely a century ago, this forest still consisted of heathland, sand drifts and a few fens. Because the farmers had a lot of problems with the drifting sand, they decided to afforestation the ground. This is how the Vresselse Bos was created, a 250-hectare forest area that is now owned by Staatsbosbeheer. In the middle of the forest is a natural fen, the Hazenputten.
