Cycling in Friesland is never boring! This route takes you through the vast Frisian landscape of polders and lakes. You will also pass through some historic towns, such as Joure.
Egbert Douwes
Shortly after boarding you cycle in Scharsterbrug past some beautifully characteristic workers' houses and a church from the early twentieth century. Joure is known as the town where Egbert Douwes started a shop selling colonial goods such as coffee in 1753. In the former Douwe Egberts factory just outside Joure you will pass Automuseum Deventer. A special outing.
Frisian mills
It is wonderful to travel for miles along the banks of the Sneekermeer. After you have had a good look at the picturesque Akkrum, you will pass two beautiful polder mills. The Deelsmolen dates from 1859, De Hersteller from 1857.
