Get to know Stadspark Sittard, the wonderfully quiet green lung of Sittard. And then walk up the Kollenberg for a beautiful view.
Monumental park
The route starts in style: at Buitenplaats De Vief Heringe. This cozy catering location is located in the Ophovenermolen, a mill whose history goes back to the fourteenth century. The current building dates from the eighteenth century. The Stadspark Sittard was completed in 1933, it was a job creation project. The beautiful park has been a national monument since 2000. You walk here in the valley of the Geleenbeek, a watercourse that you follow for a bit.
Kollenberg
After a while you walk up the Kollenberg, a hill that is rich in history. The Sint-Rosa chapel was built here in 1675 at the highest point. This chapel is dedicated to Rosa van Lima, the patroness of Sittard. During the time of the goat riders, robbers often gathered in the chapel. You walk back to De Vief Heringe via the adjacent residential area. A nice setting for a walk. And a film: here are some scenes shot for the film Flodder.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
