Admire castles around Bunnik

Country houses in the woods
You start your tour in the middle of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. From here you cycle a bit along vast heathlands that turn into a lively forest area. After cycling for about 4 kilometers, you will pass Huize't Stort. This country house and the accompanying coach house were built in 1903, at a time when many country estates were built here. Over the centuries, the house has been renovated several times. A little further on, you can admire Buitenplaats De Hoogt. In 1925, this country house was expanded into the current building. The country house is currently inhabited after having been used as a boarding school for many years.

A break at the 't Wapen van Bunnik
Then you cycle on to Bunnik, where you can take a break at't Wapen van Bunnik. On the spacious terrace you can catch your breath with a nice snack and a drink. When you have regained enough energy, you cycle on past Zeist and through the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the starting point of the route. From Bunnik you can also follow route 566146.

Sterkenburg Castle
Sterkenburg Castle is centrally located on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug between the towns of Doorn and Werkhoven. The oldest mention of this knight's estate dates from 1261. In 1841, the castle was extensively renovated, giving it its current appearance. The castle then served as a summer residence for the wealthy Kneppelhout family. From 1870, this house was permanently inhabited by this family.
