The Hoekse Waard is already beautiful with all those dikes and polders, but if you also take in the Haringvliet, you have a wonderful day out. Get off in Oud-Beijerland to enjoy the beautiful historic buildings!

National Landscape
From your starting point just above Numansdorp you set course for the Haringvliet, where you can immediately pay a visit to the National Landscape Center. The Hoeksche Waard is one of the national landscapes of the Netherlands. It received this special status because of the openness of the area, the polders and the many creeks and dikes. If you continue cycling along the Haringvliet, you will see the nature island of Tiengemeten on the horizon.

Winding dikes
The village of Zuid-Beijerland looms, just like Nieuw-Beijerland and Oud-Beijerland named after Sabina van Beieren. She was the wife of Lamoraal van Egmont, who founded Oud-Beijerland in the 16th century. You will see numerous monumental buildings.

This mill was built in 1856 as the second mill in Numansdorp. The mill was initially powered by wind power, until a mechanical drive took over. In 1953 the cover of the mill was therefore removed; not much later the rest followed.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!

The round stone scaffolding mill was built in 1853 and milled grain for nearly a hundred years. Later it also housed a specialist pet store. Now the mill is regularly open to visitors who are interested in the miller's trade.
