This route takes you through the Westhoek landscape, a quiet rural area full of meadows and fields. Relax in this vast landscape and get to know the beer tradition of this region, beautiful sights and cozy villages along the way.
The Saint Sixtus Abbey
The starting point of this route is at the Sint Sixtus Abbey. This abbey from the 19th century is known for the Trappist beer that is brewed there. Opposite the abbey you will find a café where the abbey beer is served, if you want to taste it yourself. From here you set course for the hop company Lemahieu. Hops are grown at this company to make beer, among other things. The plant is also used as a medicinal remedy. Visit this hop company and learn more about hops. The next point of interest on the route is De Hooipiete, a bridge that was built in the 19th century to make it easier for farmers to bring in hay.
