You start near the Maas above Den Bosch. You cycle along the canalized Dieze into the nature reserve around the Engelermeer. Here you will find a mixture of swamp forests, reed beds and cultivated land. A little later the Maas will lead you to many nice pictures, such as the old village of Bokhoven and Heusden. Here you follow the star-shaped pattern of the fortifications around the city, special! You cycle back along the northern bank of the Maas. On an old arm of the Maas you will pass the beautiful fourteenth-century Nederhemert Castle, which has been extensively restored. Enjoy a nice terrace here at Café restaurant Treurenburg. Or stick around for dinner and a drink afterwards to end the day well.

Fort Hedikhuizen

This fort is still part of the fortifications of Heusden and was used to protect the inundation lock. This lock made it possible to allow water to flow from the Maas in a controlled manner. Heusden was thus defended by the flooded land. Until 1952 the fort at Heusden was used as a fortification and was known militarily as "The work behind the Hoogen Maasdijk". The lock and fort now form a local and ecological connection zone for animals.
