Description

The Loosdrechtse Plassen and the Vecht are beautiful, they knew that centuries ago. It is not surprising that you will find beautiful old country estates here. Close to the city of Utrecht, this varied route also takes you past a few forts. This region is so rich in history!

Estate
From the edge of Utrecht you first cycle via Groenekan and Nieuwe Wetering to the nineteenth-century Persijn estate, where a beautiful monumental country house adorns the area. You cycle straight through the Loosdrechtse Plassen to another beautiful historical spot: Weerestein, a country estate whose main building dates from 1705. Weerestein is in good company along the beautifully meandering river Vecht: you will be amazed by all those beautiful country estates!

Forts
The route takes you successively past Fort Tienhoven and Fort de Gagel, both part of the New Dutch Waterline. Fort de Gagel is being developed as a gateway to the Noorderpark that you just cycled through, and there will be an information centre, among other things.
