Get on your bike in Kortrijk
Kortrijk is the starting point of this route. In this city, history and urban renewal go hand in hand, creating a fun mix of historic buildings and modern initiatives. From Kortrijk, you head to the villages of Heule, Gullegem and Moorsele. You cycle past the Preetjes mill from 1867, the Gulden Spoor Brewery, Moorsele Castle and through the Bergelen Provincial Domain. The Bergelen Provincial Domain consists of meadows, game fields, hay fields and forests that you can enjoy on your bike. A little further along the route is the Kezelberg Military Cemetery. More than a hundred soldiers who died in and around Moorsele during the First World War are buried in this cemetery.
Old and new sights
Then you cycle on to Wevelgem and back to Kortrijk. You cycle past the Molen De Grote Macht, the Kloosterhof, the Texture museum that focuses on the flax and linen industry, the artistic workshop the Budafabriek, the Guido Gezellepad Kortrijk jetty and the Kortrijk Beguinage.
The beguinage of Kortrijk
In the middle of Kortrijk you will find the beautiful centuries-old beguinage with 41 houses that date back to the 17th century. The Sint-Elisabethbeguinage dates from 1238 and is a combination of a square beguinage and a street beguinage. The court is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List and that is not surprising, because the historical buildings that you find here are well preserved. Take some time to wander around here and look around you.
