Walking route Panningen and Heldense Forests

From Panningen, you can walk to the Kwistbeekdal valley in no time. Here, you can enjoy wonderfully peaceful walks on unpaved paths. Ideal for a day of relaxation. At junction 83, you pass the Onderse Schans, originally built in the sixteenth century. Such farm fortifications were intended as refuge from roving bands of plunderers. The fort was reconstructed in 2015. At junction 96, you enter the Heldense Bossen forests. Here you'll find a mix of pines, fens, and small heathlands. Remnants of an old land defense still lie crisscrossed through the woods. In Helden, you'll pass the Sint-Lambertus Church. It dates back to the Middle Ages but was rebuilt in 1953 after being destroyed during World War II. A few dozen meters further, you'll see a monumental pump from 1865 on your right. The route ends at Cafe Tinus.
