Description
This route takes you along the nicest and tastiest places in Ostend. Enjoy the beautiful view of the sea along the way and occasionally make time to settle down on a terrace or in a restaurant to get acquainted with the flavors of Ostend. Then you can continue walking full of energy.
Historic buildings
The starting point of this route is on the beach of Ostend. From here you walk along the coast to the harbor of the city. Along the way you will pass the Venetian Galleries, the Kursaal Oostende and the Seamen's Monument. The Venetian Galleries were built at the request of Leopold II around the year 1900. The building is now used as an exhibition space. A little further on is the Kursaal, a casino that was built in 1875. During the Second World War, this casino was razed to the ground, but then the casino was rebuilt. It is now the largest casino in Belgium.
A visit to the fish market
After about 2 kilometers of walking you will arrive at the Vistrap. This fish market near the harbor is held daily, except on public holidays and when there is a storm at sea. Here you will find the freshest fish from the North Sea.
Maria Hendrika Park
On this walk you will also pass through the Maria Hendrika Park. Take a walk around the Spiegelmeer or relax at the edge of the fish pond in this beautiful park. It is also possible to rent a rowing boat or a pedal boat to go out on the water yourself. Highly recommended when the weather is nice.
