Tour of Aardenburg and Sluis

Your route starts at Camping Zonneweelde. Groede Podium and the charming old town of Groede are great places to stop for a break. Groede is where the warring parties in WWII found their wounded, which is why it was spared from bombing. You'll cycle along quiet roads through the Zeeland-Flanders landscape of vast grasslands and creeks, often remnants of dike breaches from centuries ago. Picturesque Aardenburg is the oldest town in Zeeland. Here you'll see, among other things, the thirteenth-century St. Bavo Church. A little further on, you'll pass the medieval town of Sluis, following the beautiful star-shaped path along the town's fortifications. Take the time to explore this beautiful fortified town from within the city walls. The most striking feature is the fourteenth-century town hall, the only belfry in the Netherlands.
