From De Bever Verhuur you go towards the Westhoofd lighthouse in Ouddorp.
Westhoofd is a national monument and one of the two lighthouses in the Netherlands that is still manned. Height is 56 meters and with a light intensity of 5,200,000 candela, this lighthouse has the strongest beam of light in the Netherlands.
The Brouwersdam, completed in 1971, is the seventh construction of the Delta Works.
You can get a breath of fresh air on the six-and-a-half kilometer long dam. Here you have beautiful views of the North Sea and the Grevelingenmeer.
Would you like to spot seals? They like to swim on the seaward side of the sluice in the Brouwersdam. To be on the safe side, bring binoculars. It is wonderful to make miles along the dunes on Schouwen-Duiveland.
Further on you pass Slot Haamstede, a national monument from the thirteenth century. In 1525 the castle was almost completely destroyed by a fire, after which the castle was rebuilt in the sixteenth century.
You go back via the inside of the Brouwersdam, with a view of the largest saltwater lake in Europe. At the end is the RTM museum. They have a beautiful collection of steam/diesel locomotives, carriages and goods wagons, which are still in working order. Walk around the depot and take a tour along the Grevelingenmeer! The route ends at De Bever Verhuur.
