Tour of Heikamp, Ruurlo and Lichtenvoorde

Your route starts at Hotel Restaurant de Koppelpaarden in Lichtenvoorde, a pleasant town in the Achterhoek. In the countryside you will immediately experience the typical tranquility of the Achterhoek. In the coulisse landscape you will find Saxon farms, but also chapels and wayside crosses. In Zieuwent you will find the Sint-Werenfridus church from 1899, this building is also called the Cathedral of the Achterhoek. You will continue through the forests near Ruurlo. In Lichtenvoorde take a look at the Market. You will find a boulder weighing 20,000 kilos. This boulder was dragged here in 1874 by 99 shoemakers from Lichtenvoorde in honor of the 25th anniversary of the reign of King William III. Since then, Lichtenvoorde has been nicknamed 'Keistad' and its inhabitants 'Keienslöppers' (cobble draggers).
