Description

Take a walk through De Pannenhoef, a unique and quiet nature reserve just below Etten-Leur in Brabant. From the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, plenty of peat was extracted here. Everything in dried form (peat) was transported to Breda and Roosendaal via peat canals as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of forest, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather rose leaves and swamp deer hay grow along the fens. The rest of the route you walk through a rural area of fields, meadows and small woods. It is a wonderfully quiet walk here, ideal for a day of relaxation. Time seems to have stood still a bit in the hamlets of Zandspui and Klappenberg. At the end of your route it is time for a Burgundian terrace at De Menmoerhoeve.
