Walking through the Pannenhoef

Take a walk through De Pannenhoef, a unique and quiet nature reserve just below Etten-Leur in Brabant. Plenty of peat was extracted here from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. Everything was transported in dried form (peat) via peat barges to Breda and Roosendaal as fuel for households and breweries. Now there is a beautiful nature reserve of forests, fens and flowery meadows. Rare plants such as heather scallops and marsh deer hay grow along the fens. The rest of the route you walk through a rural area of fields, meadows and small forest plots. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, ideal for a day of relaxation. In the hamlets of Zandspui and Kklapberg time seems to have stood still a bit. At the end of your route it is time for a Burgundian terrace at De Menmoerhoeve.
