A day in the woods on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is never boring. Certainly not when there are so many sights such as stately villas and old fortresses to see!

Utrecht Hill Ridge
Soon you drive into the vast nature on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. A wonderfully varied environment of deciduous and coniferous forests, heaths and shifting dunes. The hilly landscape occasionally offers surprising vistas. What makes this area extra special is the almost un-Dutch silence. And of course the grandeur of the many country houses and villas that have been built here over the centuries.

Fort Blauwkapel
At junction 55 you can take a trip to the National Military Museum at Soesterberg Airbase. Further on you will pass two other military sights: Fort Voordorp and Fort Blauwkapel, which was built in 1821 around the village of Blauwkapel. Blauwkapel only lost its military function in the 1960s, it is now a protected village view. In the village, the fifteenth-century church Den Blauwen Capel is still in use.
