Fruit route: a round of Tiel

This route takes you from Tiel along the floodplains of the Waal. You will also pass through the picturesque Heerewaarden, a village on the headland between Maas and Waal. A trip through a beautiful wetland area!

Fortified town of Tiel
The route starts in Tiel, a former fortified town where you will find many sights. On Ambtmanstraat you will pass the town hall, the beautiful Ambtmanshuis that dates from 1525. You can also see the Old Burger Men's and Women's House from 1804. On the Havendijk, close to junction 82, is the Waterpoort from 1647. From the harbor you cross the Waal with a ferry. An almost old-fashioned experience!

The Betuwe
It is wonderful to make miles on the Waaldijk. You look out over the floodplains and the river. On the other side are many orchards. You cycle through Heerewaarden that enjoys a protected village view. A little later you cross the Waal again with a ferry. You cycle back to Tiel through the Betuwe. A wonderfully quiet area with orchards and tranquil villages.
