This route takes you through the'backyard of Lisse\\\', as the bulb region is sometimes called. Walk on paved paths and admire the brightly colored sea of flowers on the bulb fields in spring. You can also walk along straight ditches, high dune roads, green avenues and beautiful old estates.

Flower fields as far as the eye can see
The starting point of this route is in the center of Lisse. This flower village is over 800 years old and you will find beautiful historic buildings, but also cozy shopping streets, for example. From here you walk into an open area full of flower bulb fields. In the Bollenstreek, flower bulbs are grown on the excavated sandy soil behind the dunes. In the spring, the rectilinear bulb fields with ditches around them change into a beautiful patchwork of colours. In summer and autumn you can enjoy the summer bloomers and perennials in the country. A little later in the winter, the flowers are in bloom in the greenhouses in the Bollenstreek.

Keukenhof Castle
Before you walk back into Lisse you will pass Keukenhof Castle. This castle was built in 1642 as a country house for a former VOC commander. In the 19th century, the castle was expanded and equipped with two corner towers. The Keukenhof flower exhibition is held on part of the estate.

Museum The Black Tulip
You end your walk at VVV Lisse. Here you will also find the Museum De Zwarte Tulp. Step inside if you want to learn more about the Flower Bulb Region through interactive exhibitions. Important events in the history of flower bulb cultivation are told here in a fun way. Think of the tulip craze in the 17th century and the story of the black tulip.

Please note: Part of this route runs through the Keukenhof grounds. This park is only accessible from the end of March to the middle of May for a fee. You cannot follow this part of the route for the rest of the year. Take a look at the Keukenhof website for the exact opening hours and admission prices.
