Mill walk near Bronkhorst

From Bronkhorst you can walk straight into the IJsselvallei. A wonderful area to get a breath of fresh air and forget the worries of everyday life. You will also see some beautiful old mills and farms here.

Bronkhorster Mill
You will soon pass the Bronkhorster Mill. This flour mill dates from 1844, it stands on the site of its burned-down predecessor. As for that predecessor: it was a ban mill, so the residents of Bronkhorst were obliged to have their grain milled here. After all, until 1795 the lords of Bronhorst had the right to, as they were so nicely called, 'the use of the wind'.

The hope
Further on you will pass Groot Emmer, a monumental farm from 1875. In the hamlet of Rha - a more than 1000 year old town - you will pass De Hoop. This flour mill dates from 1879. It replaced a burned down mill from 1856. It is wonderful to walk back to Bronkhorst along the footpath between the meadows. The route ends here in style: at Herberg De Gouden Leeuw, a cozy and history-rich location.
