Old Amelisweerd and Fort Rijnauwen

It is wonderful to walk through the polder between Utrecht and Bunnik. You walk along the Kromme Rijn to the Amelisweerd estate with the Oud-Amelisweerd country house, a museum where you can see works by the artist Armando. The Chinese wallpaper of this historic country estate is very special. Further on you come across Fort Rijnauwen: with 32 hectares the largest fortress of the New Dutch Waterline. Nowadays you will no longer find soldiers there, but animals such as badgers, martens and a hawk. There is also a large variety of plants to see, such as orchids. You walk a bit through Bunnik, further on you will see Rhijnauwen. The oldest youth hostel in the Netherlands has been located here since 1933: Stayokay Utrecht - Bunnik. A beautiful place where you can spend the night or have a drink in the coach house.
