Follow the German border and you'll encounter true natural gems. It's wonderful touring here in the border region!
Potato mill
From your starting point just outside Eibergen, you'll first cycle to Rekken, a picturesque village on the Berkel River. You'll see several monumental 19th-century farmhouses. You'll also cycle past the Piepermolen, a corn mill dating back to 1796. The mill has nothing to do with potatoes, but takes its name from the family that owned it between 1907 and 1965. The Piepermolen has a striking shape and is a national monument.
German border
You follow the river and later the German border north, along the Witte Veen. This heathland and woodland area was once a popular border crossing for smugglers. The Aamsveen, a little further on, was created after the excavation of the raised bog. Here you'll find wetland forests, heathland, and nutrient-poor grassland: a unique combination that is home to a wide variety of animals.
