Description

There is a lot of history to experience in the Achterhoek. Your route starts in Groenlo, a fortified town with an eventful history. During the Eighty Years' War, Groenlo was besieged several times and the town also came under fire during the Dutch War in 1672. Most of the fortifications were demolished, but the bastions, moats and cannons can still be seen. Be sure to get off at the Lebbenbrugge Farm Museum. The back house was built around 1400, where people and animals lived together. A typical medieval transverse house was built around 1550. You will find even more history in Borculo, a little further away. Borculo received city rights in 1375 and in the center you can see beautiful monuments such as an eighteenth-century water mill. Take a break at Grand Cafe Markt 5 in Lichtenvoorde!
