Historic cycling route around Groenlo and Borculo

There's a wealth of history to experience in the Achterhoek region. Your route begins in Groenlo, a fortified town with a turbulent history. During the Eighty Years' War, Groenlo was besieged several times, and the town also came under fire during the Dutch War in 1672. Most fortifications were demolished, but the bastions, moats, and cannons are still visible. Be sure to stop at the Lebbenbrugge Farm Museum. The rear of the house was built around 1400, where people and animals lived together. Around 1550, a typical medieval transept house was added. You'll find even more history in Borculo, a little further on. Borculo received city rights as early as 1375, and in the town center, you'll see beautiful monuments such as an eighteenth-century watermill. In Lichtenvoorde, take a break at Grand Café Markt 5!
