Description
You can cycle beautifully through nature around Turnhout. Discover gems such as the Turnhouts Vennengebied, the De Hoge Mouw dune area and the forests and heathland of De Liereman.
Turnhouts Fen area
From your starting point you drive into the Turnhouts Fen area. This ancient heathland with its many waters offers space for many endangered plant and animal species. A little further on you drive through the Stoktse heath, a varied landscape of meadows, deciduous and coniferous forests. It is wonderfully quiet here. Just like in the Beerse Heide, the next nature reserve on your route. What a pleasure to enjoy the greenery in the Kempen.
De Liereman
Rural roads lead you to De Hoge Mouw, an area of dunes that was once 30 meters high. Trees must prevent further erosion here. Above Oud-Turnhout you cycle close to De Liereman, one of the oldest protected nature reserves in Belgium. Cycle on to the visitor center, where you will find a nice exhibition about the area. The trip ends at the Baalse Hei campsite where you can enjoy a regional beer or a typical dish from the region.
