Exploring around Emmen

Valtherbos
Today's starting point is Tuinterras Restaurant De Gaffel, where you can enjoy outdoor seating. If it's chilly, warm up by the fireplace in the Saxon farmhouse, built around 1700. The route gets off to a great start: you'll immediately delve into the Valtherbos forest. This forest was planted only a century ago, but it's packed with history: dolmens, burial mounds, and a hiding place.

Brink
You'll make a wide circle around Emmen, passing numerous charming old villages. At the Brink in Sleen, you'll see the impressive, monumental town hall from 1938. Passing a few beautiful lakes, such as the Grote Rietplas recreational lake, you'll reach the reclaimed villages east of Emmen.
