Cycling route 549760
Provided by: route.nl
Rhenen is a village on the southeastern tip of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. A nice base for a varied route through rolling forests and the orchards of the Betuwe.
In the woods on the Grebbeberg you pass the Grebbeberg military plot. About half of the 800 war dead who are buried here were killed in the Battle of the Grebberg in 1940. Just past junction 24 you drive through the Blauwe Kamer, a rough nature reserve with flowery grasslands, willow forest and swamps. Here you can see the ruins of brick factory De Blauwe Kamer. From 1900, about 500,000 bricks were fired here every week for 75 years.
On the other side of the Lower Rhine, you have a beautiful view of the green Grebbeberg from the dike. You drive through the Betuwe here. And you can see that: along your route there are many orchards. It is wonderful to make kilometers here. With a ferry you cross the river to Elst and drive through the woods to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. In the picturesque village of Achterberg you will see characteristic monumental farms. The route ends at't Paviljoen Rhenen (Bar/Lounge, Restaurant & Hotel) in the woods on the Grebbeberg.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
