Description
Zierikzee is a cozy and beautiful town. A good opportunity to put on your hiking boots for a beautiful walk.
Monument City
It is not without reason that Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape. There are no less than 568 monuments, so take the time for this city walk to taste the unique historical atmosphere here. The city obtained its wealth not only through fishing, but also through trade and industry. Already in the Middle Ages it was a large walled city with six gates. The Zuidhavenpoort is one of them: it served to protect the southern harbor entrance.
Old Port
A little further on you will find yourself in one of the most beautiful spots in the city: at the Oude Haven. Here you can see some beautiful old ships in the Museumhaven Zeeland. Then you will pass the most famous building in Zierikzee, the Sint-Lievens Monstertoren from 1506. The tower should have been the highest in the country, but due to a lack of money, this did not happen.
