This route takes you through the green surroundings of Abcoude, one of the most beautiful areas in the Netherlands. Along the way you will pass two fortresses and other beautiful sights. Time to hit the road!

Fort near Abcoude
The starting point of this route is on the edge of Abcoude at Boutique Hotel Restaurant De Witte Dame. From here you can walk through the center. After just over a kilometer you can take a look at the Fort at Abcoude. This was the first fortress built for the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Construction began in 1884 and the fort was completed in 1887. Remarkably enough, this fort was never put into military use. It is well preserved and it is possible to visit this almost completely intact fortress in the summer months.

Did you enjoy looking around the fort? Then you continue walking in the direction of Nigtevecht. There you will find Fort Nigtevecht. Fort near Nigtevecht (1904) served as a storage place for looted goods during the Second World War. A little further on you walk along the Broekzijdse Molen and eventually you come back to the center of Abcoude. There you can have a nice bite to eat or spend the night at Boutique Hotel Restaurant De Witte Dame.

Picturesque Abcoude
After your walking tour you can take an extra detour through the old village center of Abcoude. You will find all kinds of monumental buildings here, such as the fifteenth-century Gothic village church. The Wilhelmina Bridge over the Gein is also beautiful. This quail (pedestrian bridge) dates from 1908. In short, there is plenty to discover here.
