Walking in the Twiske

From Café de Driesprong in the atmospheric Landsmeer you can take a beautiful walk in the Twiske, a wonderfully quiet and water-rich nature and recreation area. Make sure you have waterproof shoes!

The Twiske
Het Twiske already appears on thirteenth-century maps. Originally, the area consisted of peat meadows along the Twiske river. Peat was extracted here on a small scale for centuries. In the thirties of the twentieth century, the area began to be reclaimed. Because the drained land was not suitable for agriculture, Het Twiske was developed as a nature and recreation area. Ideal for a varied walk, especially if you like bird watching!

Twisker mill
If you walk into the area from Landsmeer, you will see the thatched Twiskermolen from 1525. It was built here in 1974, but before that it was in Barsinghorn. While walking, you have beautiful views over rough marshlands, especially in the north of the Twiske. In the middle of the area lies the Stootersplas, which was created after sand was extracted here for the construction of the Coentunnel route. In Landsmeer, you can enjoy the rest of your day at Café de Driesprong with a drink and a bite to eat.
