Walking in the Twiske

From Café de Driesprong in the atmospheric Landsmeer you can take a beautiful walk in the Twiske, a wonderfully quiet and water-rich nature and recreation area. Make sure you have waterproof shoes!

The Twiske
Het Twiske already appears on thirteenth-century maps. Originally the area consisted of peat meadows along the river Twiske. Peat was mined here on a small scale for centuries. In the thirties of the twentieth century, people began to reclaim the area. Because the reclaimed land was not suitable for agriculture, the Twiske has been set up as a nature and recreation area. Ideal for a varied walk, especially if you like to spot birds!

Twisker mill
If you walk into the area from Landsmeer, you will see the thatched Twisker mill from 1525. It was placed here in 1974, but was previously in Barsinghorn. While walking you have beautiful views of rugged swamp drawers, especially in the north of the Twiske. In the middle of the area is the Stootersplas, which was created after sand was extracted here for the construction of the Coentunnel route. In Landsmeer you can enjoy your day with a drink and snack at Café de Driesprong.
