Just across the border with the Netherlands you can take a beautiful bike ride through the countryside of Lommel. You drive through many nature reserves, such as the Lommel Sahara and the Stevensbergen.
Lommel Sahara
In the Lommel Sahara you mainly drive through the fragrant coniferous forests. This nature reserve takes its name from the dry sandy plain that lies in the middle of the forest. Along the leafy bank of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal you drive past the Rauwse Meer, one of the largest lakes in Flanders. The wooded zone to the west and north of this lake is called De Maat, there are meadows, fens and swamps.
Stevensbergen
You cycle across the border to drive through the Venakkerbos and the Stevensbergen in the Netherlands, two nature reserves where heathland and conifers alternate. In the Venakkerbos the height is a maximum of 44 meters above sea level, the highest point in North Brabant. It can still be wonderfully quiet in this border area. The route ends at the edge of the Lommel Sahara where you can enjoy a snack and drink at Café Brasserie De Lossing.
