You can take a lovely walk around the Limburg village of Geijsteren. You walk to the ruins of Geijsteren Castle and across the centuries-old Geijsteren Estate.
Geijsteren Castle
Geijsteren Castle originally arose in the early 1200s. The building was destroyed by a major fire in 1918. The rebuilt castle did not last long: it was bombed by the English in 1944 to prevent the Germans from taking it as a lookout post. The ruin has recently been restored, so that the contours of the castle are visible again. Upon entering, you can see from photos what the castle looked like before the bombing.
Geijsteren estate
At Landgoed Geijsteren you can enjoy a wonderfully peaceful walk through the woods. Here you will pass the Gothic St. Willibrordus Chapel from 1543. In Frankish times, court hearings and sacrificial acts were already held here. The chapel contains a Willibrordus statue from the seventeenth century and a reredos from the eighteenth century. In the Dorpsstraat of Geijsteren you will see some monumental farms.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
