Straight across the Limburg Kempen
The starting point for this route is in Wijshagen. This village was a farming village for a long time, but around 1920 more and more people came to live there who worked in nearby coal mines. Wijshagen is located on the Kempen Plateau at an altitude of approximately 70 meters. From here you cycle to Neerglabbeek and then on to Helchteren. Along the way you cycle alternately through vast agricultural areas and green forests where it is wonderfully quiet. Around Helchteren you will find beautiful nature reserves such as the Helchterenbos. You will also find Ter Dolen Castle here. In the Middle Ages, a large part of Helchteren was part of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden. Later it became an independent village.

The Fries Boutique
From Helchteren you cycle straight through beautiful nature reserves back to Wijshagen. You end your trip at the Frietboetiek. Here you can take a break from all the cycling and replenish your energy supply with Belgian fries, a Black Angus beef burger or a tasty fried snack. You deserve it after such an active day!

Ter Dolen Castle
Ter Dolen Castle is a beautiful castle from the 16th century. The predecessor of this castle was used in the Middle Ages as a summer residence for the abbots of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden. In 1361, the castle and the farm were burned down by a knight following a conflict with the then resident of the castle. The castle was rebuilt in 1522 and subsequently restored and renovated several times.
