A day of relaxation in the Achterhoek

Enjoy the Achterhoek
Extensive nature reserves may be missing on this route, but there is plenty of natural beauty to experience in the Achterhoek. You drive through a scenic landscape of meandering streams, hedgerows and small forest areas. No matter how often you cycle in this region, the Achterhoek is never boring. This of course also has to do with the unprecedented peace and quiet that you experience here, which is unprecedented by Dutch standards. It will take little effort for you to switch back.

sugar Bowl
While cycling you will pass a few interesting churches. Such as in Haarlo, where you can view the octagonal church built in 1858 and called De Kluntjespot (sugar bowl) by the residents. Rietmolen's St. Cecilia Church, dating from 1932, is also octagonal and also has a striking tower. At Hotel Restaurant Kloppendiek you can enjoy Westphalian hospitality and a good night's sleep. Opposite the hotel is the St. Francis Church from 1720. It is the best preserved Baroque church in Münsterland.

Piepermolen
You also drive through Rekken, a picturesque village that is bisected by the Berkel river. You will see some monumental farms from the nineteenth century. You will also cycle past the Piepermolen, a flour mill from 1796. The mill has nothing to do with potatoes, but takes its name from the family that owned it between 1907 and 1965. The Piepermolen has a striking shape and is a national monument.
