Description
Dutch windmill panoramas
The start and end point of this route is at the Zaandijk Zaanse Schans train station on Stationsstraat. From here you cycle over the Juliana Bridge towards the Kalverpolder. Along the way you can admire a beautiful mill panorama. The Zaan region and the rest of Holland became extremely prosperous thanks to the production of the mills. As a result, Holland even grew into a world power in the seventeenth century. Get off in the hamlet of Haaldersbroek to take a photo of the wooden houses. You then cycle through the Wijde Wormer polder to the town of Jisp, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Zwet.
The Zaanse Schans is a unique Dutch heritage that shows the heyday of the Zaan region at its best. This world-famous living and working neighborhood is a tourist attraction full of historical treasures. The second part of the route goes through Westzaan, a ribbon village that was once the main town of this region. The so-called battle landscape of the Westzanerpolder is a protected nature reserve.
Height Profile
In Laag Holland are the rustic villages of yesteryear. While cycling you will find Dutch history in the beautiful straight polder lines and the protected city and village views. Low Holland is a national landscape. The Defense Line of Amsterdam and the Beemster have been placed on the World Heritage list by UNESCO.
