Around Voerendaal you will find beautiful green areas that are perfect for a relaxing walk. It is wonderfully quiet here, so it should not be a problem at all to clear your head. Enjoy the nature around you and the atmospheric places on this route and relax.

Explore small Limburg towns
The church village of Kunrade is the starting point of this walk. This village has completely merged with Voerendaal. The first part of the route takes you from Kunrade along the edge of Voerendaal and then you set course for Craubeek. You walk through the green countryside of these towns. Craubeek is a small town named after a stream and a valley with springs. The valley of Craubeek forms the border of a plateau with chalk layers in the soil. These layers are better known as Kunradersteen. From Craubeek you walk back to Voerendaal and finally you end your trip in Kunrade.

Kunrader stone
Kunrade is known for the limestone that can be found in the ground here. This is a yellow-grey limestone that looks a lot like Limburg marl, but is a lot harder. In the past, this rock was often used as a building material for farms, castles and church buildings and is still used regularly today. Kunradersteen was formed in the landscape about 70 million years ago.

Cortenbach Castle is one of the five castles in Voerendaal. The castle is located northeast of Voerendaal and is not open to the public. Today it is a beautiful castle farm, of which the striking corner tower alone is worth a look. The atmosphere of yesteryear has lingered here. The current castle is made up of the remains of the original medieval fortress.
