From Valkenburg to Brunssum

From Valkenburg you can make a beautiful bike ride to Brunssum. In the hilly countryside you will find plenty of nature, tranquility and cultural history.

Brunssumerheide
The route takes you through hamlets such as Klimmen and Craubeek. Here you can see the characteristic farms for which South Limburg is known. Just past Hoensbroek you enter the Brunssummerheide, the only large heathland in South Limburg. Thanks to the height differences, you have beautiful views of heathland and forests here. With a bit of luck you will hear the'cowbells\\\' ringing, a sign that the shepherd and his flock of sheep are nearby. A nice sight!

Unique walk
You drive back to Valkenburg through the quiet rural hills. Along the way you can take a look at Castle Hoensbroek. You can also see beautiful monuments in picturesque Valkenburg itself, such as East Castle and the ruins of Valkenburg Castle, which stands on the Heunsberg. The base for this route is Parkhotel Valkenburg, an attractive and hospitable four-star hotel.

Castle Hoensbroek
Do you want to make it a nice long day? Then you probably also have some time for a visit to Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And most beautiful. Already around 1225 there was a motte on this spot. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest fortress between the Maas and the Rhine. Worth a visit, because this enormous castle museum is a true experience. You can wander through more than forty castle rooms.
