The Belsee Beer Route

This route takes you through the rural area of Lokeren. You drive past the Molsbroek nature reserve and the valley around the river De Durme, a tributary of the Scheldt.

Molsbroek
It is wonderful to travel miles in the Flemish countryside. You drive through a series of meadows, small forests and stream valleys. You regularly see a characteristic roadside chapel. On the edge of Lokeren you will pass the Molsbroek, a wonderfully quiet and bird-rich nature reserve. From the cycle path you have a beautiful view over the marshes, swamp forests, reed fields and wet grasslands. That's pure enjoyment while you completely relax.

Durmemeersen
Just below Waasmunster you drive through the idyllic Durmemeersen. Here you see a mosaic of hay meadows, moist scrub, reed fields and freshwater marshes outside the dike. You can stop at a bench to take a break with a picnic and enjoy this beautiful area. Further on you drive through Heide, a wooded residential neighborhood with many villas. In Belsele you will pass the St. Andrew and Ghislenus Church, a beautiful Gothic cruciform church that originally dates from the twelfth century. A beautiful sight to take a closer look at after all the natural beauty you have cycled through.
