The South Limburg Heuvelland is a unique region in the Netherlands. Explore this area by bike and experience the rich cultural history.

National Landscape
Because of its unique cultural history, the Heuvelland has been given the status of National Landscape. Here you cycle through a mosaic of forests, fields and meadows. Here and there you can still see the traditional bocage landscape with standard orchards and hawthorn hedges. Of course you have the most beautiful views of the Netherlands from the hilltops. Take your time to catch your breath from the climb and the breathtaking surroundings.

Limburg craftsmanship
The Heuvelland is of course also characterized by the many monumental half-timbered houses and square farms. When you cycle into a hamlet like Bruisterbosch, it sometimes seems as if you have taken a leap back in time. In Margraten you drive past the Sint-Margaritakerk, a characteristic church built in marlstone whose tower dates back to the fourteenth century. Opposite the church in Mheer you are welcome on the cozy terrace of Café Quanten.

Gronsveld Tower Mill
On the edge of Maastricht you pass the Torenmolen van Gronsveld. This is one of the five remaining tower mills in the Netherlands, so it is a unique sight. Especially because the building belongs to the top 100 monuments. The mill dates from 1623 and was used for grinding grain. In 1944 the mill was on the front line: it was shelled and burned down completely. In 1959 the mill interior was rebuilt by the mill builders family Adriaens from Weert.

Torenmolen van Gronsveld
6228 Maastricht

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were used not only to produce flour from cereals, but also to reclaim polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
