Tour of the Stoutenburg Estate near Amersfoort

East of Amersfoort you can take a long walk through the countryside. You pass through beautiful small-scale nature reserves and Landgoed Stoutenburg. Your walk starts at Farm De Omrand with its nice local shop. In the Bloomdaal nature reserve, the landscape is allowed to become overgrown. It provides you with beautiful pictures: you see flowery hay meadows, wetlands, swaying reeds and bubbling streams. This is how the entire Gelderse Valley once lay. You can learn more about this in the coach house on the historic Landgoed Stoutenburg. You walk around the castle through a deciduous forest, here and there you see old hedgerows. Further on you walk along the Barneveldse Beek, one of the many streams that converge in this area. You also walk on the Asschatterkade, an original eighteenth-century defensive structure that was part of the Grebbelinie.
