This route takes you through Noordwijk and Katwijk, two well-known and pleasant coastal towns. You can enjoy the beach life and the characteristic atmosphere. Especially in Noordwijk you will pass some historical sights. The starting point of this route is Herberg Welgelegen in Valkenburg. A house with character, located in a beautiful building located on the Oude Rijn. With eight luxurious hotel rooms and a restaurant on the water, the place to relax outdoors. Enjoy the Berkheide, a beautiful nature reserve south of Katwijk, during this route. The area consists mainly of small valleys and parabolic dunes. Herberg Welgelegen is a beautiful and rustic old villa on the Oude Rijn that has been completely renovated based on a dream for better care. We believe in a lean, small-scale and enterprising organization that is supported by the local community and helped by volunteers. Because our commercial activities generate income, we have to rely less and less on the wallet of the government or clients. Finding and connecting each other is our guiding principle. Herberg Welgelegen, the former town hall of Valkenburg, has a rich history. The building was built in 1895 as a home for the director of one of the tile factories that could be found along the Oude Rijn. Welgelegen served as the mayor's residence until the 1920s. Afterwards, several families lived in the house.
