Historic sights in cozy villages
The starting point of this route is in Kolhorn. Until 1844 this town was a fishing village on the Zuiderzee. Now the village is about 20 kilometers away from the water due to the reclamation of various pieces of land. Part of the village has a protected village view. So it is definitely worth making a tour of Kolhorn. For example, take a look at the Laurenskerk from 1645 or at the old pumping station Schager Kogge. You then continue cycling through Barsingerhorn, Haringhuizen and Nieuwe Niedorp, among others. In this village you will find many ancient sights such as the crooked church tower from 1684 and the polder windmill De Westermolen.

Back to Kolhorn
You then cycle through the polders to Oude Niedorp and Winkel. Traces have been found near the town of Winkel from which it can be deduced that people already lived here around 2500 BC. From here you cycle back to Kolhorn.

From sea to agricultural area
A large area around Kolhorn was reclaimed in the 19th century. This area was flooded after several storms in the 12th century. The Wieringermeer, the Waardpolder and the Groetpolder, among others, used to be part of the sea. Now you will find extensive agricultural areas, authentic farms and, above all, a lot of peace and space. The perfect place to clear your head.
