A trip to Heel

You don't always have to travel many kilometers to experience a lot. The proof: this short route through the Limburg Heel and the Maasplassen.

Nederhoven Castle
In Heel you will immediately see several beautiful old farms. You will also pass Kasteel Nederhoven, a moated hunting lodge on the northern bank of the Sleijbeek. The current castle was built in 1614 on the foundations of the original house from the fifteenth century. Just behind the castle you will pass a beautiful monumental farm from 1850. You will cross the Maas via a lock complex, via a bicycle bridge over the weir complex you will cycle to the Linnerweerd. Look around you for a beautiful view.

Linnerweerd
The Linnerweerd is one of the few remaining natural floodplains of the Meuse. You can see two eighteenth-century country houses there: Ravensberg and Heysterum, which stands on the foundations of a medieval castle. On the edge of Linne you can see the beautiful sixteenth-century Sint Martinuskerk. In Heel you pass the Sint-Stephanuskerk, a beautiful building whose tower dates back to the twelfth century.
