In the vicinity of Thull in South Limburg, you can go for a nice walk and enjoy beautiful views. This route takes you over the Krekelberg and through the wooded valley of the Geleenbeek. Put on waterproof shoes!
Geleenbeek
The first meters you walk along the Mulderplas, a former swamp area where the State Mines once discharged the polluted rinse water that was used to wash the coal. The area was cleaned in 1984, so that you can now enjoy the beautiful forests around the lake. A little further you walk through the park-like valley of the Geleenbeek. An idyllic spot!
Lady Chapel
When you come out of Mulderswegske, you will see the artisanal Alfa Brewery on the left, a family business that was founded in 1870. It is the only brewery that extracts its brewing water from its own natural source. The hiking trail then takes you over the Krekelberg, a hill that is just over 100 meters high. You walk here through a beautiful beech forest. On the west side you will pass the monumental Maria Chapel from 1939. At Brasserie De Muldermolen you can enjoy a nice drink and snack.
