The more than 5000 hectare Anna Paulownapolder is located in the Kop van Noord-Holland. As a hiker you will experience wide views and a wonderful tranquility here. An ideal opportunity to get a breath of fresh air.
Anna Paulowna
The polder is named after the Russian wife of King Willem II. It is the last polder to be drained in this region: only in 1846. However, the salinized soil turned out to be unsuitable for agriculture for a long time. Now you can see colorful bulb fields in the season. You walk a bit along the shore of the Amstelmeer. Originally, this lake formed a transition between the Wadden Sea and the former Zuiderzee. You will see many birds and water sports enthusiasts here.
Van Ewijck lock
At Anna Paulowna you will pass the Leonide mill, which dates from 2002. This mill looks like a traditional sawmill, but has never been in operation. The Leonide is part of a house and is made up of parts from different windmills. The village of Van Ewijcksluis originated around the lock between the Lage Oude Veer and the Amstelmeer.
