With this long cycling route you will experience a natural day in the woods of the Gooi and on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. From Huizen you cycle all the way to Utrecht and back. A route full of sights.

Goose Forests
It is nice and warm to run in the quiet and varied Gooise Bossen. At junction 80 you are almost at the highest point of the Gooi: the 36 meter high sand ridge that is called Table Mountain. Finds in prehistoric burial mounds show that people have lived here since 2500 BC. A little further on you cross the Bussummer- and Westerheide. What a beautiful view you have here from the saddle.

City heart of Utrecht
You drive through the woods around Hilversum to Hollandse Rading. Until Utrecht you drive along the canal through an open polder landscape that forms a nice contrast with the Gooise Bossen. You cross the beautiful city center of Utrecht, at the Amelisweerd you drive back into the polder. A little later you drive up the rolling Utrechtse Heuvelrug where you can again enjoy rolling your wheels for miles through the quiet woods.

Fort Rijnauwen
The route also takes you past Fort Rijnauwen. With 32 hectares, this is the largest fortress in the New Dutch Waterline. It was built between 1867 and 1869. Today the fort is in the hands of Staatsbosbeheer. It no longer houses soldiers, but animals such as badgers, martens and a hawk. There is also a wide variety of plants, such as orchids. Guided tours are given on fixed days and times from 1 April to 30 September.
