By bike through Delft and Schiedam

This route takes you to Delft and Schiedam. Towns where you pass plenty of historical sights. In the wide polders you will find beautiful views and special nature reserves.

Historic Delft
The route starts at Vlietzicht. Grab a terrace by the water before cycling through the idyllic countryside to Bed & Breakfast Rechthuis van Zouteveen. This courthouse dates back to 1651! In Schipluiden you see some characteristic monuments, the Reformed Church dates from 1622. A little later you cycle into Delft. In this beautiful old city it is wonderful to cycle along the canals adorned with monumental buildings.

Abtswoudse Bos
On the outskirts of Delft you cycle between the Abtswoudse Bos and the Ackerdijkse Bos. A little later you drive through the vast polders of Midden-Delfland. What beautiful views! Between Vlaardingen and Schiedam you pass through the Princess Beatrix Park. Then you can enjoy the old town of Schiedam, where you will see some unique windmills. You cycle back to Vlietzicht along the Vlaardingervaart. Terrace!

Schiedam windmills
In the center of Schiedam you can see three Schiedamse Molens, the tallest classic windmills in the world. This unique Dutch heritage is one of the six surviving copies of the original twenty Schiedam city windmills. In these city mills, malted grain was ground for the burners that produced malt wine for the jenever industry. De Noord from 1803 was until 2006 (when the 42.5 meter high Molen Nolet was completed) with its 33.3 meter the second highest in the world. De Vrijheid dates from 1785. De Drie Koornbloemen is the oldest of the bunch: it dates from 1770.
