Enjoy Gelderland

In the Veluwezoom National Park you can enjoy peace, endless nature and a beautiful view. You also take a trip through the IJsselvallei.

The Veluwezoom
You start the route at one of the most beautiful places in the Netherlands: the almost 90 meter high Posbank! You have a beautiful view of this moraine. In clear weather you can even look more than 20 kilometers away and see the hills of the Rijk van Nijmegen! From here you drive through the forests and over the heath of De Veluwezoom, the oldest national park in the Netherlands: it was established in 1930.

The alley
At Loenen you briefly descend the Veluwe. The forests here make way for flowery grasslands and gurgling streams. In the village of Hall you will pass the Hall Church, a medieval building. In picturesque De Steeg, many old houses have elements that refer to the local Middachten castle, such as the colors red and white. At Pannekoekhuis Strijland you can regain your strength with a drink and a delicious meal, before cycling back to the Natuurmonumenten Parking Lot.

Ter Horst Castle
Just past Loenen you pass Ter Horst Castle, hidden in the woods. Around 1557, Wijnand Hackfort, the then mayor of Arnhem, had his summer and hunting residence built here. The castle remained in this noble family for seven generations. The castle is privately owned.
