It is wonderfully quiet cycling in the Lingewaard and Overbetuwe. You will find special nature reserves, orchards and plenty of cultural history. For example, you pass the Waal Crossing Monument near Nijmegen. This is where a battalion of American soldiers crossed the Waal during Operation Market Garden. From the dike you have a beautiful view of the Oosterhoutse Waarden nature reserve. On one side you see the banks of the Waal, on the other side there are rough grasslands. From the Waaldijk you can see the white-plastered fifteenth-century village church of Slijk-Ewijk: a picture! In old Elst you will pass the beautiful Grote Kerk. In Bemmel you can enjoy a cozy terrace at Het Wapen van Bemmel. After your tour, you will regain your strength at the cozy Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen.
