Walking through nature at Altweerterheide

Altweerterheide is a beautiful central base for walks through nature reserves such as the Tungelerwallen and the Laurabossen. A large part of the route you walk through the picturesque valley of the Tungelroyse Beek. This stream has been cleaned up and in the process got its meandering course and reed beds back. It was one of the largest stream restoration operations in the Netherlands. Around the stream are extensive grasslands and fields. At the intersection of the stream and the Wijffelterbroekdijk there is a beautiful wooden picnic bench. What a place! You walk a bit through the Laurabossen and the Tungelerwallen. You mainly see conifers here, here and there birch and oak trees also grow. What is striking: the omnipresent silence! How nice it is to walk here. In Altweerterheide you can admire the Heilig Hartkerk from 1936.
