Altweerterheide is the westernmost place in Dutch Limburg. You can enjoy walking through nature reserves such as the Tungelerwallen and the Laurabossen.
Tungelroyse Beek
You walk through the picturesque valley of the Tungelroyse Beek for a large part of the route. This stream was remediated during the first decade of this century. He also regained his meandering walk and reed collars. It was one of the largest stream restoration operations in the Netherlands. There are extensive grasslands and fields surrounding the stream. There is a beautiful wooden picnic bench at the intersection of the stream and the Wijffelterbroekdijk. What a spot!
Altweerterheide
You walk a bit through the Laurabossen and the Tungelerwallen. You mainly see coniferous trees here, but birch and oak also grow here and there. What is striking: the ubiquitous silence! It's so nice to walk here. In Altweerterheide you can admire the Heilig Hartkerk from 1936.
