The Bolle Jan route

The route offers you a view of the beautiful varied landscape in this region. You walk through coniferous forests, deciduous forests and meadows and fields. By Dutch standards it is remarkably quiet here. At the end of the route you see a farm in the fields with a striking white building. This was Groot Karelke, the large reclamation farm of Bolle Jan. Trader Bolle Jan has a place in the local collective memory for several reasons. From his farm he walked through a no man's land where at most a few Dutch border guards were present to maintain the state of siege. The herd and the 'occasional shepherds' manage to cross the border where the Germans briefly turn off the deadly 2000 volts of the Death Wire.
